Robert Goulet’s last concert: at the Palace Theatre

Eastwood has the poignant distinction of being the site of the last concert performed by a most beloved singer, Robert Goulet, who died this past Tuesday of pulmonary fibrosis. You may remember that he gave a concert, “The Man and His Music,” at the Palace Theatre on September 20.

Many of us will dearly miss this talented man. I, for one, find it hard to put into words the place Mr. Goulet had in my life. As corny as it seems these days, mine was a family that actually sang together around the piano. Whenever Dad would go to New York on a buying trip, he’d come back with sheet music from whatever Broadway show he’d seen. Consequently, I have a head full of show tunes, not a few of which had been sung by Mr. Goulet. He was the first man I ever fell in love with. I think I was about nine.

The POMCO Finale Concert will feature Ronnie Leigh’s Jazz Quartet followed by Jr. Walker’s All Stars. PLUS a post-concert benefit jam session in the Palace Theater featuring both great groups($5 donation).

All POMCO presents Jazz in the City concerts are free outdoor concerts. Concerts run 7PM – 9PM. Patrons should bring lawn chairs and umbrellas. We encourage you to patronize vendors who will be present and also nearby establishments who will set up sidewalk dining for the event. NO COOLERS OR PETS WILL BE ALLOWED AND NO ALCOHOL WILL BE SERVED

Grupo Pagán CD Release Party at the Palace

I’m biased about this group, I have to admit. Dave and I love Latin rhythms, we love to dance, and Grupo Pagán plays some of the hottest, most “danceable” music you’ll hear in Syracuse. They play most frequently at the Dinosaur these days, but you can catch them at many festivals and some other venues throughout the year. Now is your chance to hear them here in Eastwood, and maybe catch your walkable blogger dancing her feet off!

The CD has been mastered by Rich Breen and is ready for release. We are very excited and feel very blessed. Rich has won Grammys for his engineering and has worked with The Yellowjackets, Nora Jones, Sheryl Crow, Michael Jackson, Bill Evans, and the Rolling Stones to name a few. The CD, which was produced by Legendary Yellowjackets bassist Jimmy Haslip, contains guest performances by world renowned artists Eric Marienthal, Katisse Buckingham, Mikanic, and Emedin Rivera.
