It happened at dusk, the night of April 20, 2007…

But what was it? It was at the Palace Theatre… but… where? Inside? Outside? On the roof? In the cafe? Some said it was “an exciting – and unexpected – visual experience.” Some attributed it to “the Avalanche Collective” – whatever that was! Some group of clandestine artsy merrymakers, they hinted. What was the truth?

You can find out by traveling forward in time (or is it backward?) to the night of Friday, April 20, 2007. At the Palace. Something… at dusk… is going to happen. Or did!

It was an ephemeral event – we thought it would be some sort of film projection on the outside of the theater. After wondering whether any event would occur, some folks arrived, bringing some gear they pulled along in a red Radio Flyer wagon!

The young men, presumably college students, set equipment up and showed some brief footage of scenes from top-grossing films. In the meantime one of them was filming the entire procedure, adding a peculiar post-modern quality to the proceedings. I was thinking that this may have been part of a Newhouse grad student project.

Almost as soon as the event occurred, they moved their gear away, and we looked at each other, somewhat perplexed. But then Lonnie, Mike, Pete, Sig and I ended up having a lively conversation and many laughs.

Then we met a young Vietnamese man, Khanh, who enthusiastically told us about some community outreach programs he was planning, and best of all, he gave us the secrets to the famously good Vietnamese coffee.

So this Dada-esque event led to some companionship, laughs, and meeting some interesting people – the type of Eastwood street fun that we look forward to seeing in the spring and summer months!
